Hello, my name is Emma and I am a French native who is very much in love with living in the Cotswolds.

If somebody had told my 15 year old self that I would one day blog about the Cotswolds, I would have laughed in their face. First of all because I would have thought blog was a rude word, secondly because at that age, Paris was the only place that mattered and finally because my English did not extend much beyond “how do you do?”.

Fast forward 20 years or so and I have been living in Oxfordshire for a long time working as a French tutor, my English has improved, the Internet was invented and I happen to find the countryside very appealing. As we say in French: “Il n’y a que les imbéciles qui ne changent pas d’avis” (only idiots don’t change their minds)!

I would like to share my passion for the Cotswolds through this blog and hope to give you ideas for trails to walk, spots to visit and places to eat if you are in search of a Cotswolds experience.

I apologise for the mistakes I will make while writing this blog but will try my best to do justice to the beautiful English language.

  8. Emma, the Cotswolds are one of my favorite spots in the world! I am an English speaker who daily practices an hour of French! In the next month or so I will be traveling again to the UK, this time to see the lovely gardens and homes in Kent and Sussex. I will be living three weeks in an old converted barn! I hope it is as lovely experience as I had in the Cotswolds! Hope to hear from you again and I am now “following” your events! They’re lovely!

I have returned the compliment because from the little I have seen already, I will really enjoy sharing your journey not least because we have sort of swapped lives! I’m not surprised you love where you live … it is thoroughly beautiful. So – away we go … you writing about the most English England and me about being in the Frenchest France! Happy days 🙂

    • I have been once in Cantal and enjoyed it. Like the Cotswolds, it is very picturesque, fresh and green (ok, rainy…). I am not sure many English people live there so you made a brave choice. I hope the French treat you well!

      • The people here see me as a curiosity for sure but are incredibly sweet natured in the main and very kind. Of course few speak any English so I have had to learn to make myself understood …. slowly!

  14. Like you I am not native to this land. I have found myself on the border of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and have found this to be one of the most interesting areas in Britain. I hope I have captured that excitement in my blogs just as you have fallen in love with the Cotswold. So I return to Australia but with a bit of my heart in the midlands and another bit with my cousin in Dampierre sur Bouton. Yes France. My French son in law approves.

    I really enjoyed your blog. The photographs of Blenheim were especially magical. It is lovely to come across someone who shares the same passion for the Cotswolds that I do.
